Tokyo Tower
Pics taken from Tokyo Tower 12/4/2005
Tokyo Tower as seen when approaching from the Kamiyacho subway station. Built in 1958. 333m (1093 feet) by design, 43 feet higher than Eiffel Tower. Most of the pictures below were shot from the top observation deck.
The large buildig with the black roof in the foreground is an enormous Budist Temple. It is a beautiful and very imposing building when seen from up close. It's so large I couldn't get close enough to get it into frame so there aren't any other pictures of it.
This is the Rainbow Bridge. Note the two buildings in the foreground. The reflection they present is amazaingly clear. The next image is one of the buildings taken with my camera at maximum magnification.
The green in the background is the Imperial Castle. To the left and back somewhere is the Yanaka region where I'm staying.
I waited too long. A few seconds earlier these two were looking down. It's an amazing sight. This is from the lower observation gallery.
This window shows something similar to what the two kids in the previous frame were seeing. The upper level is about 150m higher than this one.
The black roof in the background is the Buddist shrine I mentioned before. This small Shinto shrine was behind it. I am told that most Shinto shrines have a Buddist shrine associated with it. Also, the Shinto religion seems to be for the current life and the Buddist shrines are for the next (that's a terrible oversimplification -- I appologize.) The Buddist shrine felt cold to me. Very beautiful and impressive but somehow cold. This area felt very quiet and peaceful somehow.
This Tori is at the entrance to the shrine. The sun was going down, but I liked the profile, so I kept the picture anyway.
