Yanaka
12/3 through 12/10/05
Sendagi Subway Station -- a quiet Sunday night -- the only slow time I've seen so far.
Annex Katsutaro Ryikan is next to the lights ahead.
Annes Katsutaro Ryokan -- http://www.katsutaro.com. I stayed here and highly recommend it. The people are great, it's near one of the first stops of the Skyliner comming into town, and it's close to both the Sendagi Subway Station (1 min. walk) and the Nippori Railroad Station (7 minute walk.) Price was very fair too.
Entrance to Yanaka area from Nippori Rail Station.
It's hard to tell much, but this was the view from my room. I liked it!
Temple near the rail station.
Entrance to the Jazz Bar Django. It's right up the nearest side street from the Sendagi Subway Station entrance 1 I think. Great Jazz and good company. If you're in the area and near the club -- don't miss it. Koji -- the owner is a really friendly guy. I was here 3 nights over two weeks and the music was wonderful every night.
The next four photos were taken in a small park behind Sendagi Metro Station. This small Shinto Shrine was in the center of the park.
Bridge in a small park behind Sendagi Rail Station.
This is taken in a small Buddist Temple. There were 60+ shrines and temples in the Yanaka area.
This Shinto Shrine is on the ridge behind the Nishi Nippori Train Station. A very quiet, peacful place.
This Dragon is part of the purification area outside the main shrine building. You are to rinse your hands and mouth before praying. All the shrines had these with some more ornate than others. This one was particularly interesting to me. The Dragon was a beautiful piece of workmanship.
This small shirine was nect to the bigger one in the previous frame, and there is a still smaller shrine to the left partially cut off in the frame.
