Meji Jingu/Shibuya
Meji shrine and vicinity
Entrance to Takeshita street in Shibuya. Note the style of the guy across the street. He'd be comfortable here.
This is a BMW Motorcycle, believe it or not.
Main Tori into the Meji Shrine. The Meji Emporer was the Emperor who was responsible for much of the modernization of the Japan and the end of the Samuri as a class. The Tori indicates this is a Shinto shrine.
Note the prayer sign at the lower left.
These are the prayer plaques in the previous frame. I saw at least 6 or 8 languages represented here.
This is off of the entrance in the frame two before this. All the entrances are guarded by a Tori.
This is the main temple.
This huge Taiko drum is inside the main temple in the previous frame.
Sake anyone? I think these get broken out during the festival season. Sake is a purifying element if in Shinto if I understand correctly.
Rules of the park. Among other things, no horse riding allowed.
A very nice passer-by took this of me.
The following photos were taken in the inner garden. This was a tea house.
This Iris Garden must be magnificent when in full bloom. This time of year it is quiet and peaceful and almost abandoned. I saw only one couple in this whole area.
